Upon entering Hazella Bake Shop on Saturday, the smell of fresh-cut flowers, baked chocolate, and vanilla icing completely overwhelmed in the best possible way.

Red and pink balloons and streamers filled the rest of the space with a vibrant buzz of Valentine cheer. The record player’s needle was deep into Elton John’s best love songs and though one of the coldest, iciest days of the year, all were warm and in good spirits.

Hundred of community members made it out to our ‘Very Valentine Pop-Up’ to help our 14-year-old Assistant Baker, Haddie, raise money to attend summer camp at The Culinary Institute of America in New York next year. Over 50 beautifully frosted Raspberry Red Velvet Cakes and 200 chocolate strawberries were pre-ordered by community members and made by Haddie to help her reach her goal.

Amanda Dant, of Morning Glories Floral, and her daughter, Morgan, made the day into a real event by setting up her pop-up flower market in the shop during the fundraiser, where she had custom bouquets, live plants, and dried arrangements available for purchase.

In addition to the blooms and pre-order goodies, Hazella had a light offering of cookies, cupcakes, and Valentine’s-Themed beverages available. We went through gallons of our Sipping Chocolate and our Red Velvet Hot Cocoa.

No Hazella day is complete without some fresh-brewed Bespoken Coffee Roasters “Forecast” Blend, so we offered our favorite coffee with steamed milk and rosewater with a dash of cardamom to create a crowd-pleasing “Roskaffe.”

We also enjoyed coming up with a very special Stroopwafel just for this event! We used a heart-shaped cookie cutter to create pink Raspberry Syrup-Filled Valentine’s Stroopwafels and they were a HIT.

So many people made this day possible, but it wouldn’t have been the same at all without Amanda’s flowers or our dear friend and owner of NW FIT, Kenzie Womack, who decorated the front and took photos for Haddie’s portfolio.

We also have to say… Haddie you killed it! We are so proud of you and how hard you worked to make this event come to life and share your God-given gifts with our community. Hazella Bake Shop is so thankful to have you!

We also have to commend Haddie’s parents, Kristen and Jeramy for being so supportive and being willing to volunteer to roll up their sleeves and wash mountains of dishes, dip hundreds of strawberries, and all of the other little things that made this day possible.

Below are some of Kenzie’s beautiful photos from the day. If you weren’t able to make it in person, we hope they will help you get a feel like you were there!

We have been closed for two weeks and our owners have been on vacation, but we will be back open as usual this Wednesday, February 17th.

We love you guys and we hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! We know we did.

Your friend,

Katherine
